How to play Hearts
Hearts is the four-player trick-taking game played against three computer opponents. Every heart you take is a point against you and the queen of spades is thirteen. Three cards are passed before each hand — left, then right, then across, then a hand with no passing — and the two of clubs always opens the first trick.
You must follow suit when you can, nobody may dump points on the first trick, and hearts cannot be led until one has been played. The legal cards in your hand are always the bright ones. Take every heart and the queen and you shoot the moon: nothing for you, twenty-six for everyone else.
The opponents pass their dangerous cards, duck under the winning card when they can, and unload the queen as soon as someone plays a higher spade. The game ends when anyone reaches fifty points, and the lowest total wins.
