How to play Connect Four

Connect Four is the familiar frame: seven columns, six rows and discs that fall to the lowest open space. Four in a row across, down or on either diagonal wins, and you always move first.

The three opponents are the same engine looking different distances ahead. Pip looks two moves on and now and then drops a disc without thinking, Moss looks four and blocks anything obvious, and Vesper looks six — far enough to build a pair of threats you can only stop one of.

Beat all three to finish the ladder. A full board is a draw and the game is simply replayed; a loss costs one of three lives. Faster wins score more.

Make four in a row against three increasingly far-sighted opponents.
