How to play Pirate Island
Pirate Island lands you on a beach with a treasure map torn into pieces and hidden in barrels around the island. You pick the pieces up in whatever order you reach them, and each holds one leg of the route: start at a landmark such as the skull rock or the lone palm, walk so many paces north, then so many east, and dig where the last piece ends.
The pieces sit in a strip under the island in the order you found them. Their torn edges only line up with the right neighbours, so match the tears to put the map back together, then walk the legs pace by pace and dig. A wrong dig breaks one of your three shovels and costs daylight.
There are five treasures to find. The map is torn into three pieces on the first island and six on the last, the legs grow longer, and the daylight allowance — worked out from each island's own walking distances — gets tighter. Running out of light or shovels costs a life and sends you to a fresh island.
