How to play Word Ladder
Word Ladder asks you to climb from one four-letter word to another by changing a single letter at each step, where every rung has to be a real word. COLD to WARM might go through CORD, CARD and WARD — or somewhere else entirely.
Each puzzle is picked by searching the game's word list, so a route is guaranteed to exist and the length of the shortest one is the par. You can take any route you can find; steps past par cost points, and a hint reveals the next rung of a shortest route from wherever you are, at a price.
A run is eight ladders, from three steps up to six. Each ladder allows par plus four steps, and running out of steps costs one of three lives. Undo takes back a rung for free.
