How to play Shape Memory

A grid of cells lights up with a handful of shapes: circle, square, triangle, star, hexagon, diamond, cross, heart, crescent and arrow. They are all painted in the same colour, so colour never helps; only the form and the place count. A countdown bar shows how long you may study. When you think you have it, press READY to hide the board early and bank a time bonus.

Then the board goes blank and the questions arrive in a shuffled order, in two kinds. A FORM question marks a cell and asks which shape was there; pick it from the answer row, which also holds decoy shapes that were never on the board. A POSITION question shows a shape and asks where it was; choose the cell. Every shape on the board is asked about exactly once, half by form and half by position, and no answer is revealed until the round ends, so one question never gives away another.

Form and position are scored separately, on two meters with a pass mark, and the HUD keeps a running percentage of each for the whole run, so you can see which kind of memory is stronger. A round passes only when both meters reach the mark. The review screen then shows the full board with every answer marked. A missed round costs one of three hearts and replays the level with a fresh layout. Clearing level 3, 6 or 9 gives back a lost heart.

There are twelve levels. The shape count rises from 4 to 8, the grid grows from 3×3 to 5×4 and the study time per shape shrinks from 1.5 to about 0.7 seconds. The answer row grows from five to ten choices: one decoy at first, two from level 3. You need half of each kind right until the final board, which asks for three of four of each. Clear the twelfth board to win. Correct answers in a row build a score multiplier, and a perfect board earns a bonus.
