How to play Sound Memory

Sound Memory is a memory game you play by ear, so turn your sound on. A row of identical pads sits on the stage: same colour, same size, no symbols. Each pad plays one note, and the row is ordered by pitch, lowest on the left and highest on the right. Each round a short melody plays while the pads stay dark. Only a row of dots shows how many notes there are, so what you hear is all you have to go on. Then you play the melody back by tapping the pads or pressing their number keys. A pad lights and sounds when you press it.

The first wrong pad costs one of three hearts. The game tells you whether the right note was higher or lower, then plays the melody again with the pads lighting up in order and numbered, so each miss teaches you which sound belongs to which pad. You then retry the same round with a new melody. Hear Scale plays every pad from low to high as a free reference whenever it is your turn. You also get one replay of the melody per attempt. If the portal's sound is switched off, a warning appears: melodies and stage scales pause until sound is back on, and Replay and Hear Scale stay unused.

There are sixteen rounds in six stages. You start with three widely spaced pads, and each new stage adds pads and brings the notes closer together: a major chord, the pentatonic scale, a six-note scale with its first semitone step, the full major scale, and finally eight pads with a run of semitones. Within a stage the melody grows by one note each round, and the playback speeds up from round to round. Every new stage plays its scale once before the first melody, and finishing a stage restores one lost heart. Clear round 16 to win. Correct notes (each counted once per attempt), cleared rounds and unused replays add to your score, and first-try rounds build a streak multiplier.
