How to play Pattern Memory

A square grid lights up a pattern of cells for a few seconds, then goes dark. Rebuild the pattern exactly: move the cursor with the arrow keys and press Space to cycle a cell, or tap cells directly (drag to paint a run of cells in the same state), then press Enter or the SUBMIT button. CLEAR wipes everything you placed. The number of lit cells is always shown, so the test is where they were, not how many.

Every submission is judged cell by cell, and the verdict is drawn on the grid with a different mark for each outcome: a tick for a right cell, a hollow ring for a lit cell you missed, a cross for a cell you lit that was dark, and a triangle for a right cell in the wrong colour. A perfect pattern scores and moves you up a level. Any mistake costs one of your three hearts and brings a fresh pattern of the same level. Clearing levels 5, 10 and 13 gives back one lost heart.

There are fifteen levels. The grid grows from 3×3 to 7×7, the pattern grows from 3 to 12 lit cells, and the look grows from about 2 seconds on the small grids to 4 seconds or more on the 7×7 grids, never less than 0.3 s per lit cell. From level 7 cells come in two colours, violet (a solid face) and amber (a face with a diamond cut-out), and both the place and the colour of every cell must match; Space cycles dark, violet, amber, and the 1 and 2 keys toggle violet or amber on the cell (pressing 1 on a violet cell turns it dark again). Level 15 is a 7×7 pattern of 6 violet and 6 amber cells, and reproducing it perfectly wins the run.

A perfect pattern is worth 40 points plus 30 per lit cell, plus a speed bonus that drains from the moment the grid goes dark, all multiplied by a perfect-streak multiplier that climbs to ×4 and resets on a mistake. Scores are kept locally on your device.
