How to play Ninja Battle
Ninja Battle is a ladder of five one-on-one duels on a night-time rooftop, each the best of three rounds. Both fighters have four hit points and one stamina bar drawn under their feet, and that bar pays for everything: a quick slash that takes a hit point, a heavy strike that takes two, a dash, and a shuriken that takes half of one. Every hit you block drains it too, a heavy strike most of all. It only refills while you are not attacking, dashing or blocking, twice as fast standing still as walking. With a mouse, the same moves sit on buttons along the bottom of the screen.
When the bar runs dry your guard breaks and you are stunned for over a second. Press block just before a blow arrives and it becomes a parry: it costs nothing and staggers the attacker. Dashes pass through blades, shuriken and the opponent, and a raised block only covers the side it faces. If nobody is hit for a few seconds the roof edges crumble inward. When the 90-second clock runs out, more hit points win the round, then more stamina, and a dead level round goes to your opponent.
Iwa the turtle waits to parry, Homura the aggressor burns stamina and then has to back off, Hayate throws shuriken from a distance, Kagero dashes through your swings, and Master Ren never spends stamina they cannot spare. They react faster the higher you climb, and all of them read a string of repeated swings and start parrying it. Rest when your bar is low, attack when theirs is. Lose a duel and the climb is over.
