How to play Cricket Batting
Cricket Batting is a chase: forty-eight to win from four overs with three wickets in hand. Every ball is bowled with a line and a length, both named as the bowler runs in, and the shot you pick has to suit what is coming. Drive the full ball, pull the short one, cut anything wide of off, and block when the ball is doing something you do not fancy.
Then there is the timing. The middle of the window is four runs and the edges are an edge to the cordon, and playing the wrong shot to the right length is how you get caught rather than how you score.
The bowler mixes his length far better as the innings goes on and slips in a quicker ball now and then. Leave a straight full one and you are bowled. Three wickets and the chase is over.
