How to play Gem Clicker
Gem Clicker is about when to spend, not only what to spend on. Tap the stone and hire polishers for shards — apprentices, cutters, lapidaries, workshops and guild halls — and every shard is multiplied by your crown.
The crown only grows by cutting gems, and a gem costs the whole workshop: every polisher and every shard go to the cutter, and you start again with a single apprentice. In return the new gem multiplies the crown for good. A gem's size is the square root of the shards mined since the last cut, measured against 5,000, so a gem cut the moment it becomes available is small, and one cut after a long wait costs minutes you could have spent with a bigger crown. The cutting table shows the gem you would get, the crown it would make and how many shards the next whole size needs.
The crown has to reach ×1,000 before the jeweller calls for it, eight and a half minutes in. Gems of about ×3 are usually quickest; cutting at ×1.5 or holding out for ×10 both take minutes longer. Cutting takes two presses, so a stray key never costs you a workshop.
